Reading Blue Coat School
The Richard Aldworth Building
Having completed a master plan for Reading Blue Coat School, just south of Sonning on the east side of Reading, the entry point for the governors was a new classroom building replacing a cramped 1950s concrete framed classroom block on many different levels and reaching the end of its useful life.
The school was also expanding and a major new classroom building along with a middle school common room and art school was needed.
Borrowing heavily from the work at Mill Hill School the classrooms sit round a central atrium space which integrates large proportions of the school lockers with the middle school common room overlooking the main playing fields across a landscaped terrace.
