Ibstock Place School
The new sports hall at Ibstock Place School in Roehampton was completed in 2008.
The first phase of a ten year development plan, it unlocked the site of the old gymnasium to make way for new academic facilities at the heart of the school.
The naturally ventilated sports hall, which adjoins the existing pavilion, features a sprung floor, four badminton courts, cricket nets and motorised basketball match goals.
Parents' generous response to an Appeal during construction allowed the addition of a first floor viewing gallery and an electronic scoreboard.
Enhanced lighting, a large display screen, audio-visual equipment and a user-friendly carpeting system make the hall a flexible venue for events and examinations.
The construction of the new sports hall enabled the school to dispense with the old style gymnasium which sat right in the heart of the academic area. This unlocked the development of the central teaching areas. By the careful use of levels the school is now linked from one end to the other with a two storey height library overlooking the landscaped garden in the heart of the school.
"BHM was appointed to undertake a master plan exercise, which showed IPS the way to develop the school for the 21st century.
Our first project was a new Sports Hall and this unlocked the centre of our campus and enabled us to build what we believe is one of the best new teaching buildings in London, “New School".
BHM’s ability to think laterally over future development has been invaluable. "
