DULWICH COLLEGE – NEW SWIMMING POOL

The existing sports facilities at the College have now reached the stage where they need renewal. The College wished to centralise all sports facilities on one site, which could be better accessed by the local community and other schools.

The new swimming pool building has been located alongside the current sports hall in order to reduce the encroachment upon the useable open land.  In addition the roof and massing of the building has been designed to keep the roofline beneath that of the existing sports hall.  A band of vertical cladding has also been introduced to enhance the horizontal lines of the pool hall, again to reduce the visual impact of the building.

The design of the new swimming pool includes two changing rooms, disabled changing, pool storage, sub aqua storage, a staff office and a double height ‘light shaft’ to the lobby area. The proposals also include for the redesign of the sports centre entrance area, with a new reception and office. The College hope to proceed after the pool, with a second phase of works to include three new squash courts and an activity hall, all adjoining a separate side of the sports centre.
